Low-Fat Chocolate Mocha Cake

Home > Recipes > Healthy Options > Low-Fat Chocolate Mocha Cake

Low-fat chocolate cakeThis light and fluffy cake has all the taste of a full fat chocolate cake but has only 180 calories per slice so you can enjoy a nice guilt free slab of chocolate heaven while still watching your weight.

The perfect chocolate cake!

The filling is made with light soft cheese and fat free yogurt instead of cream or butter cream and is topped with a chocolaty low fat creamy delight but still retains all the taste and it looks great too!

If you don’t like the taste of coffee you can leave it out the cake still tastes yummy!

Don’t use 70% or above dark chocolate for this recipe because it makes the topping taste a bit bitter anything below that is fine.

How to make Low-Fat Chocolate Mocha Cake

Pre-heat the oven to 180°C/350°F, gas mark 4

Lightly butter and line the insides of two 18 cm sandwich tins

Whisk the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy

Sift the flour, cornflour, cocoa and baking powder into this mixture and fold gently using a metal spoon

Divide the mixture between the two tins

Bake for 15-20 minutes

Leave to cool in the tins for 5 minutes and then turn out onto a wire cooling rack

How to make the filling and topping:

Melt the chocolate and coffee together in a bowl over a pan of hot water stirring until the chocolate has melted

Leave to cool slightly

While this mixture is cooling

Beat the soft cheese, yogurt and icing sugar together until smooth

Place half of this yogurt mixture in a separate bowl this will be used for the filling

Stir the chocolate mixture into the other half of the yogurt mixture until well combined

Sandwich the two sponges together using the yogurt and soft cheese mixture

Cover the top of the cake with the chocolate mixture and drizzle over with the melted dark chocolate
