chocolate cake recipes
A thought crossed our minds while we were writing this section, “What is the difference between a chocolate cake and a chocolate gateau?”
So we looked it up in the dictionary to satisfy our curiosity and this is what we found:
Cake: a sweet, baked, bread like food made with or without shortening and usually containing flour, sugar, baking powder or soda powder, eggs and liquid flavouring.
Gateau: a cake, especially a light sponge cake with a rich icing or filling.
So does that actually mean that there is a difference? Or is Gateau just the fancy French way of saying cake?
Either way we have lots of lovely light spongy chocolate cake recipes including a rich dark and fruity Black Forest Cake recipe so you can decide whether it is a Gateau or a Cake after you eat it and by that point I’m sure, like us, you won’t care.
